As residents of Huntington Beach, CA we are always looking for family friendly places to adventure to. I say adventure because if you are like us and have a 6 year old and 9-month old walking (yes walking) baby, everything is an adventure. Our family is on a mission to share with you the best places in Orange County, CA that are fun, family oriented and affordable. Our first stop? Yup, you better believe it was in own hometown of Huntington Beach.
Where else can you find an ocean view, shopping for the the fam, great food (even, for picky 6 year olds) and happy hour for Mom and Dad? 5th and PCH that’s where. Let me break this down for you… There is this super cute little street north of Main St. that is a one stop hit for everyone and I mean everyone. Like Waffles? Bruxie all day. How about pizza? Pizza press has you covered. Tacos?? Who doesn’t love tacos? Jimboys has delicious tacos that our son LOVED, and by Loved I mean he asked me if I could stop eating so he could finish mine. If you are a mom like me, I’m sure you know how that outcome was. [Insert Hangry face] The most important part though… Happy Hour, who loves a good happy hour? WE DO!
Our visit started off trying on new sunglasses at Chili Beans who has fashion-forward adorable sunnies for you babes and even your tiny humans. We didn’t get far before Ollie, hungry 6-year old pictured above, demanded tacos, and hey, I never turn down a taco stop. Trust me when I say they have THE best tacos ever!
Insider tip: If you download Jimboys app you get a free, yes free, taco.
Moving onto the mom fun part… a little shopping for myself. It is NO secret that I am a huge fan of Forever35, I mean Forever21, and love sharing my fashion tips and deals with others. As I power walked into the retail store I went straight to the one thing that always fits… the hats. Hey, after having a kid trying on clothes sometimes sucks but hats never let you down. Here are a few of my finds that anyone can pull off and afford.
Next stop… Shorebreak hotel, or I should say resort. This Resort is our absolute favorite spot in Huntington Beach! I am sure you are thinking, why would a hotel in your own home city be your family go to spot? Well, that’s what I am getting too. Inside this super posh resort with decor that is Instagram picture worthy is a hidden gem called Pacific Hideaway. I will go into more detail about the hotel but first, food. Offering craft cocktails, a legit kids menu and happy hour EVERYDAY, yes you read that right, everyday of the week, Pacific Hideaway deserves a little recognition. Now are you catching on to why it is out favorite spot??
With indoor/outdoor seating, a cute casual lounge area and an open concept design this pet friendly restaurant deserves all the praise. Oh and did I mention that stroller parking is a breeze??? Listen, although I am a blogger I am also a waitress and let me tell you, strollers in the walk way is a nightmare and inconvenience to almost all servers, especially young ones who have no child experience. So when I say there is room for a stroller this alone is like finding gold.
The service and hospitality is top notch and again coming from a veteran server, those words do not come out of my mouth easily; I am a tough critic. Now let’s get to the goods… the food and beverages. We typically only order off the happy hour menu but this visit we splurged and tried a few new items and they all were absolutely incredible, in fact I am craving their roasted carrots now.
Aside from my daughter who has serious fear of missing out and refused to nap all day causing me to want to show this place what hideaway really means our visit was perfect. For the record, a day that I don’t want to hide from my kids doesn’t exists.
Oh you thought I was done raving about this visit? That’s cute. I saved the best for last, right now for the holidays and through Jan. 1st, 2019 the resort has a special Winter Wonderland treat for everyone 21+… a Miracle bar!! WHATTT! Yeah you heard me right, if you are obsessed with Christmas like we are then this is a must have experience. Shorebreak turned their ocean view suite into a pop up holiday bar and it looks like Christmas vomited all over. Trust me, this is the kind of vomit you will want to see.
I really want to wrap this up (get it? pun intended) so Happy Holidays friends!!
