Celebrating solo: So you are alone for Valentines day, now what?
Whether you’re single or your special person is away, I’ve got you covered. Why I am qualified for this topic? I will tell you why… I’ve spent MANY, and I mean many, holidays single and alone. Although I am no longer single, since my husband travels for work 3 nights a week, I’ve got A LOT of experience entertaining myself and ugly crying. So let me share it with you, K, thanks.
Let’s start with the single crowd since they shouldn’t be punished and read any love bullshit first, and then they can bail if they don’t want the treat at the end of this post.
Dear Single/Alone on Valentines day peeps,
I KNOW how you feel, please trust me when I say this and if you don’t, believe me, I have a list of references ready for you to call and verify my statement. If I wasn’t single I was in an unhealthy relationship and spent many nights crying and yelling at God for leaving me feeling so alone. The truth though? It was in those moments, super low-depressing moments, that I grew. It is no secret that I am old, 35 to be exact, and didn’t find my “person” until I was 33! There is hope, so if you’re reading this, dreading single’s awareness day, please try- if even for a moment- to appreciate where you are at in life. Oh and if you’re still feeling down on yourself, call me, I have stories for days years that will make you feel better about your circumstances. Actually, I will take that a step further and I personally will send you coffee as a gift from a previously broken hearted/hopeless human to another. I literally have, “ALL HEART, NO HOPE” tattooed on me with a bleeding heart above it. – XOXO Bonnie
I went on a tangent above because that is how passionate I am about being single on Valentine’s day. This is why I choose to talk about, “CELEBRATING SOLO” as my chosen topic for this series. It is easy to look at the negatives when you feel unloved but let’s focus on turning those negatives into indulgences. Take this day and pamper yourself, that’s what I do when I am alone and even if that means rubbing your saline tears into your skin then do it! My real suggestion to you though would be to do the following:
- Turn off your phone
- Put your ugly sweatpants and sweatshirt on
- Wash your face and put a facemask on (I will buy you one, just ask)
- Make a heart-shaped fatty quesadilla and eat the shit out of it
- Eat ALL the chocolate
- Lay in bed with a HUGE glass of wine or hot cocoa + extra whip
- Write a couple of cards to friends you love
- Watch 10 things I hate about you OR listen to Lemonade by Beyonce and love your life.
Listen, I may be alone Valentine’s day as well, so if you need me I am here.
NOW, for those of you celebrating the day with a loved one or a major crush, my team has you covered on all topics Valentine’s.
I reached out to my closest blogger and artist friends and invited them to be a part of this little series, asking them to choose a topic relating to V-day and share their inside view. 5 incredible humans from all over the world, sharing 5 different topics and 5 of you will win coffee on me if you make it to the end of this post. My Valentine gave me these gorgeous flowers! Now what?
You got some fantastic flowers from your Valentine! Yay! But now what? How are you supposed to care for them? How can you get the most out of your flowers? Here are a couple of things to keep in mind.
Stevie– Wife, Mom of Henry & Matilda and my internet bestie living an ex-pat life in Mexico.
“Unique Gift guide” for the whole family; Because if you’re anything like me, you get the same sexy things like socks and a blow dryer each year.
Bree– Wife to Sam- who I hunted down and aggressively cornered when I saw him in public for the first time, Momma to Riv, who happens to be Charlie’s first crush and all owner of Radriverco.
Want to avoid all newbie daters and stay home in the comfort of your own messy bun and pj’s, Bree covers the best way to Valen-dine at home. That charcuterie board is making me hungry. On my way!.
Jen- My other go-to Insta-mom friend, wife to the battle of the unboxing competitor and mama to rainbow baby Hendrix. Instagram/Decor/Fashion guru, she has you covered for all life things.
How do I celebrate Galentine’s and what do I need to do?” Good thing is, there’s no wrong way to do it! It could be over brunch (like Leslie), over wine & apps, mani-pedi’s at a spa or popping a bottle of champagne on a roof top deck without the men for a few hours! Don’t you worry, I am here to give you a little inspo for goodies, crafts and decor!
So you made it to the end! I am proud of you, but let’s be real, you just wanted the coffee right?? Hey, I don’t blame you, but it’s not that easy. Send me a message on here or Instagram letting me know one simple thing from each blog post from above and I will send you a Starbucks gift card. First 5 people only <3
